Biography

Erika McGinnis has been painting and drawing since she was very young.  She earned her Bachelor of Fine Art from Boise State University in 1998 with an emphasis in art history.  Erika is a member of the International Association of Astronomical Artists (www.IAAA.org) and is an avid science fiction reader, from where a lot of her inspiration comes.  Her art has been shown at various sci-fi conventions around the Northwest and has won “Best of Show” and “Best New Artist” awards.

Erika periodically instructs watercolor classes for Community Education and teaches youth art lessons through the Young Rembrandts Program.   She has done numerous illustrations for books, CD covers, and magazines, such as such as Farscape-Season Three, Black Petals and Tales of the Talisman.  Her New Star Tarot  deck and New Star Tarot journal are available at Borders, Books and Music,  Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.com.  A book of her artwork, The Art of Erika McGinnis, is soon to be released from Windstorm Creative Publishers in Seattle.

A year ago, Erika started her company,  Under the Cobalt Sky, LLC,, which carries a line of products featuring her artwork for yoga wear, with proceeds benefiting the Humane Society, and jewelry that emphasizes the different ages of art history.

Erika lives in Boise, Idaho with her husband, jazz saxophonist Sandon Mayhew, and their dog, Thelonious.
